KAPAʻA (Wailua Homesteads) – The Department of Water (DOW) will conduct a test shutdown on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The affected area will include the upper portion of Kuamoo Road, extending north from Paako Street to Reservoir Dam Road, including all branching roads
The test shutdown will allow DOW crews to evaluate the system before future repair work by operating the booster pump in low-frequency mode to help supply water pressure to affected customers. During the test shutdown, customers in the affected area may experience intermittent water outages, or fluctuations in water pressure, depending on water supply demand, and water pressure. Customers in the vicinity of Reservoir Dam Road are most likely to experience intermittent water outages. Customers located in the affected areas are advised to prepare by taking the following steps: -Store enough water to meet your needs during the shutdown. -Notify family, friends, tenants, and neighbors. -Ensure water heaters do not empty. -Avoid using appliances that require water during the test shutdown. KEKAHA – The Department of Water (DOW) advises customers in Kekaha of a scheduled water service shutdown on a portion of Ulili Road (between Akialoa Road and Akekeke Road) on Thursday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting. The temporary shutdown is necessary to install a new 4-inch valve and upgrade a hydrant lateral, which will improve water system reliability and fire protection in the area. Customers are advised to plan accordingly and store enough water for household needs during the shutdown period, and not to use appliances that require water. Do not let your water heater empty. Once water service is restored, the DOW will flush the system through an open hydrant. While DOW crews make every effort to restore water service as quickly and as safely as possible, it is difficult to estimate when service will be restored due to unforeseen issues and necessary water system adjustments.
After a service outage, water may appear cloudy due to tiny air bubbles that are released after being trapped in the water pipes, much like air bubbles seen in a bottle of soda when you first open it. This water is perfectly safe to drink. If you allow the water to sit for a few moments, the cloudiness will slowly dissipate.
After a service outage, water may appear brown due to the disturbance of pipeline sediments in the water main, that may have occurred during the pipeline repair work. Running the faucet or outside hose bib for five minutes will flush the lines, and usually addresses the issue. If the issue persists, call DOW to report it.
This may be caused by a leak on your property or you may have a pressure reducing valve installed on your house that has failed. Another cause may be a leak on the County’s water line, or a fault with the County’s pressure reducing valve, these problems would cause your neighbors to experience pressure loss also.
