REMINDER: Water service shutdown scheduled for customers in Hanalei on June 25
HANALEI – The Department of Water (DOW) reminds customers that a water service shutdown has been scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting, for the Hanalei Water Line Improvements Project. The purpose of this project is to replace the aging water main infrastructure to meet current water system standards, including existing fire flow requirements.
The water service shutdown will impact customers located on a portion of Weke Road, from Mālolo Road to the northwest end of Weke Road; Kūhiō Highway, from Mahimahi Road to Waikoko, in the vicinity of the hairpin turn. Customers located on ʻAmaʻama Road, ʻAnae Road, Heʻe Road, and Kumu Road will also be impacted.
Additionally, the intersection of Kūhiō Highway with ʻAnae Road will be closed to thru traffic from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. Motorists are advised to use Weke Road for entry and exit to ʻAnae Road. Kūhiō Highway will remain open during work hours but will be restricted to one lane, alternating traffic.
To prepare for the water service shutdown, customers are advised to take the following steps:
- Store enough water to meet your needs until water service can be restored;
- Notify family, friends, tenants and neighbors about the water service shutdown;
- Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that their water heaters do not empty during the shutdown;
- Businesses are advised to prepare accordingly for the water service disruption.
The DOW will provide water buffaloes for essential water needs during the water service shutdown. Water buffaloes will be located at the Waiʻoli Park soccer fields off Kūhiō Highway and Waiʻoli Beach Park off ʻAmaʻama Road. Customers will need to provide their own water storage containers.
