Blessing held for Kūhiō Highway (Hardy-Oxford) Waterline Project
LĪHUʻE – The Department of Water (DOW), Contractor Alpha Inc., and Construction Manager Bowers + Kubota held a blessing ceremony on Friday, October 3, to commence the Kūhiō Highway (Hardy-Oxford) Waterline Project.
The project involves the replacement of aging water main infrastructure to meet current Water System Standards, including fire flow requirements.
“This was indeed a glorious event. We extend our sincere gratitude to our supportive board members and elected officials for joining us. As we move forward with this vital project, we remain committed to keeping our community informed, while working diligently to minimize any unnecessary disruptions,” said Joe Tait, DOW Manager and Chief Engineer.
Friday’s blessing was officiated by Kahu Jade Waialeale Battad and included State Representative Luke Evslin, Board of Water Supply Vice-Chair Tom Shigemoto, Board of Water Supply and County Engineer Troy Tanigawa, DOW Manager and Chief Engineer Joe Tait, and Alpha Inc. Foreman Richard Waalani Jr.
Impacted areas will include:
– Kūhiō Highway from Hardy Street to Oxford Street
– Poinciana Street from Kūhiō Highway to Jerves Street
The project will be executed in two phases:
– Phase I: Commencing October 2025
– Phase II: Beginning December 2025
