DOW announces the Community Preparedness Forum at Princeville Public Library
PRINCEVILLE – The Department of Water (DOW) is pleased to announce the upcoming “Community Preparedness Forum” hosted by North Shore Give. This event will be a collaborative effort with the Kauaʻi Emergency Management Agency (KEMA) and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to provide essential information on disaster preparedness, including hurricanes, wildfires, and other local hazards. The forum is free to attend and will take place at the Princeville Public Library on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 4 p.m.
“This forum is about empowering individuals and families with the knowledge and confidence to act when it matters most,” said Stefan Swanepoel, president of North Shore Give. “Preparedness starts at home, but it doesn’t end there. When we come together to learn and support each other, our entire community becomes stronger and safer.”
Participants will learn about emergency communication options when the internet and cell infrastructure are unavailable. They will also have the chance to sign up for free CPR and AED classes. Additionally, attendees will discover how to create an individual emergency plan, assemble an emergency preparedness kit, and implement important safety tips. Each participant will receive a complimentary 20-liter water storage container, while supplies last.
The Princeville Public Library is at 4343 Emmalani Dr., Princeville, HI 96722. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible at 808-826-4310. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged but not required.
